School's back in session with glossy "90210"
-Posted by: Quivi
The world's most famous ZIP code returned to primetime Tuesday, albeit at a different network than during its first 10-season run; the CW network rather than Fox.
It also arrives with a truncated title, the "Beverly Hills, 90210" of the original shortened to simply "90210" because short is the new long (or at least, the new cool). Television would trim "Citizen Kane" to "Kane" were it ever to go to series.
But by any handle, high school is high school, and the world of spoiled rich bitches and brats hasn't changed much in the 18 years since the first "90210" premiered. But let it be said at the outset that the latest, hotly anticipated new edition doesn't embarrass as much as many had feared given the decision by the CW publicity department not to send out screeners in advance to critics. This form of journalistic blasphemy will no doubt result in the show getting panned by many scribes just on general principles. But the truth is it really isn't so horrible after all. ... 90210 Review: The New Kids Have Yet to ‘Gel’
-Posted by: Quivi
The CW has gone and Gossip Girl-ified Beverly Hills, 90210, the show that gave a still-grateful nation Luke Perry, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Jason Priestley and Tori Spelling. The resulting premiere teamed with so many scheming, fashion-forward characters it could have been Vanity Fair with bleached teeth and lip gloss. It wasn’t bad—and it was certainly better than the CW’s other new show about rich kids, Privileged—but a one-hour pilot episode might have worked better than Tuesday’s epic two-hour special. [...]
The standout is AnnaLynne McCord as bad-girl Naomi Clark: She’s very striking physically—almost startling, somewhere between Charlize Theron and Courtney Love—and she conveys a mix of high drama, meanness and little-girl self-pity that’s a lot of fun. ... Read More ...

AnnaLynne On Naomi Clark
-Posted by: Quivi
Name: Naomi Clark (AnnaLynne McCord) Where you've seen her: As the inhibition-free bad girl Eden Lord on Nip/Tuck, and as Cappie's psycho stalker, Destiny, on ABC Family's Greek In this zip she'll be... The richest, prettiest, bitchiest girl in high school, who's dating superstar athlete Ethan (until Annie shows up). ''She's the queen of manipulation. She knows how to dupe her way, charm her way, and pout her way into anything,'' McCord says, adding, ''But every bitch has a little girl inside that didn't get what they needed from somewhere.'' THE SHOW "90210," The CW, 8 p.m. Tuesday
REASON TO WATCH Spinoff of the most successful teen soap in TV history (airing on Fox from 1990 to 2000) - a "Dynasty" for the under-18 crowd, which propelled a whole genre, now exemplified by " The Hills."
WHAT WAS THE OLD SHOW ABOUT? At West Beverly High, Minnesota transplants Brenda ( Shannen Doherty) and Brandon ( Jason Priestley) are thrown into a shark pool of the arrogant and the ill-behaved. Kelly Taylor ( Jennie Garth) is the snooty blonde who had just broken up with Steve Sanders (Ian Ziering). Donna Martin ( Tori Spelling) is her best friend. Andrea Zuckerman (Gabrielle Carteris) is the bookish kid; David Silver (Brian Austin Green) is the nerd, and so on. In time, world-famous characters ( Luke Perry, as Dylan McKay, the love of Brenda's life) would join and leave. ... Read More ...

'90210': Same ZIP code, new rich teens
-Posted by: Quivi
One of the most famous ZIP codes in the world returns to TV tonight, populated by a new batch of hot young things and infused with the promise of roiling teen melodrama.
The CW has whipped up "90210" in the fervent hope that it will do for this fledgling network what "Beverly Hills, 90210" did for relative newcomer Fox in 1990. The original series enthralled teens and shocked parents with its adolescent perspective on everything from addiction to first-time sex and unwanted pregnancy.
Set among the rich and supremely spoiled youth of Beverly Hills, the '90s show delighted in mixing glamour and misery. The newcomer strives to be a bit different.
"Our show is a completely original invention, with an homage to the original," executive producer Gabe Sachs said in Los Angeles recently. "This is a huge responsibility for us because the show was huge before." ... Read More ...
