9021 - Oh no!
-Posted by: Quivi
Relative newcomer AnnaLynne McCord told Entertainment Weekly that, "It's very scary to think of committing to any show for six years." McCord plays the super rich, super bitch Naomi on the CW's newly revamped 90210. I hate to be the bearer of bad news for you, Miss McCord ... Read More ...

Show Tracker: What you're watching
-Posted by: Quivi
News about '90210' is spreading faster than gossip in West Beverly High's halls. Earlier this week, executive producer Gabe Sachs hinted there was a strong likelihood Shannen Doherty would extend her four-episode run as Brenda. Then Doherty herself seemed to put the kibosh on that idea. Now it seems the CW is still holding out hope that the reformed troublemaker will reappear later in the season. ... Read More ...

10 to watch: These TV actors caught our eye
-Posted by: Quivi
Doing these "people to watch" things for TV can be tricky. We scored in the past with The Shield’s Jay Karnes and Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer, and even on a pre-Lost Maggie Grace. But every now and then you run into, say, Caroline Dhavernas, the Canadian actress who starred in Fox’s beautiful but far-too-short-lived Wonderfalls and hasn’t been seen much in the States since (she does have a thriving career in Canada, though).
So again, we gamble, with blind betting added because we still haven’t received preview discs of some of the fall shows. But here’s a combination of who we’ve liked so far and whom we have high hopes for this season.
AnnaLynne McCord Where to see her this fall: 90210, 7 p.m. Tuesdays on KDAF/Channel 33
Where you may have seen her before: McCord has done several projects, but her big breakthrough was Eden Lord, the psycho daughter of Portia de Rossi’s recurring character on Nip/Tuck who nearly proved fatal to Joely Richardson’s Julia.
Why we think she’s going places: On Nip/Tuck, McCord was pretty one-note — which appears to be more the fault of the show’s over-the-top writing than anything else. She’s surprisingly more nuanced on 90210 as Naomi Clark, the popular but vulnerable but snotty but misunderstood but vindictive high-school queen. Out of all the younger characters, Naomi appears (in the early going, anyway) to be the most complex, and McCord has been stealing scenes away from nominal star Shenae Grimes. Her snippiness helps cut through the show’s earnestness. ... Read More ...

WHO LOVES/HATES '90210'?
-Posted by: Quivi
The CW's decision to not screen "90210" before last night's two-hour series premiere paid off in ratings, but not in reviews.
The highly anticipated spinoff averaged 5 million viewers, making the updated version of '90s classic "Beverly Hills 90210" the highest-rated scripted series premiere in the network's history.
While fans--old and new--rode The CW's wave of excitement all the way to the iconic ZIP code, newspaper critics are universally calling "90210" a wipe out. ... Read More ...

School's back in session with glossy "90210"
-Posted by: Quivi
The world's most famous ZIP code returned to primetime Tuesday, albeit at a different network than during its first 10-season run; the CW network rather than Fox.
It also arrives with a truncated title, the "Beverly Hills, 90210" of the original shortened to simply "90210" because short is the new long (or at least, the new cool). Television would trim "Citizen Kane" to "Kane" were it ever to go to series.
But by any handle, high school is high school, and the world of spoiled rich bitches and brats hasn't changed much in the 18 years since the first "90210" premiered. But let it be said at the outset that the latest, hotly anticipated new edition doesn't embarrass as much as many had feared given the decision by the CW publicity department not to send out screeners in advance to critics. This form of journalistic blasphemy will no doubt result in the show getting panned by many scribes just on general principles. But the truth is it really isn't so horrible after all. ... 90210 Review: The New Kids Have Yet to ‘Gel’
-Posted by: Quivi
The CW has gone and Gossip Girl-ified Beverly Hills, 90210, the show that gave a still-grateful nation Luke Perry, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Jason Priestley and Tori Spelling. The resulting premiere teamed with so many scheming, fashion-forward characters it could have been Vanity Fair with bleached teeth and lip gloss. It wasn’t bad—and it was certainly better than the CW’s other new show about rich kids, Privileged—but a one-hour pilot episode might have worked better than Tuesday’s epic two-hour special. [...]
The standout is AnnaLynne McCord as bad-girl Naomi Clark: She’s very striking physically—almost startling, somewhere between Charlize Theron and Courtney Love—and she conveys a mix of high drama, meanness and little-girl self-pity that’s a lot of fun. ... Read More ...
